Operation of the Yaesu FT-101Z Transceiver

Receive Mode:
1 Preset controls as follows:

2 MFJ Antenna Tuner - Set tuner to 'THRU'

3 Turn power switch ON. Adjust AF gain to desired sound level. You may do likewise with RF gain for weaker signals.

4 To vary IF passband, press the WIDTH button and rotate WIDTH control. Use this only to cut QRM/QRN as it
changes the passband from 2.4 kHz down to 300 Hz (CW appropriate).

Note: Do not turn on HEATER if you intend to receive only. DO turn on HEATER if you will eventually transmit.

Transmit Mode / Transmitter Tuning:

1. Preset transceiver for maximum receive as described above, but, with the HEATER ON

2. Switch antenna tuner to 'dummy load'. When you learn how to do this quickly you may switch to the
antenna rather than the dummy load. If so, match antenna with tuner. Choose a spot where no QSO is occurring.

NOTE: You are now going to tune the transmitter. Do not exceed 10 seconds of key-down time while tuning.
Whenever you switch the VOX GAIN switch to MOX, you are in key-down mode.

3. Preset controls:

4. Set VOX/GAIN to MOX; Advance DRIVE control for a reading of 150 mA.

5. With MOX still on, peak PRESELECT for maximum reading. If it goes over 150 mA, reduce DRIVE.
(I like to do steps 4 and 5 separately, turning MOX off in between. This way you won't exceed the 10 second limit).

6 Rotate PLATE for dip on IC meter - turn off MOX.

7. Final Tuning (do this step in 10 seconds or less or switch out of MOX temporarily)

8. Transmitting
