A little bit of Browning History

The Mark I or R-69 receiver, improved on the R-27 with the Collins filter, better mixing and AGC circuitry. These look like the Mark II's without the 'ON the AIR' light. Next was the Mark II here which made further improvements on the mixing, AGC and metering and kept the Collins filter. Soon after the release, Rockwell bought out Collins and the price of the filter skyrocketed to $100's. No one (including Tram) could any longer afford to produce CB's with it. Browning reengineered the Mark II's an added more I.F. cans, but cut the filter. Other CB manufactures including Tram Polycom, General, Courier, did the same thing.

Browning labeled the Mark II's without the filter, series 'B'. A great receiver, but not as good as the series 'A' with the filter. Next was the infamous Mark III which added SSB and they finally perfected the AGC and metering. Last was the Mark IV series which is another of GREAT radio as it has the best squelching, AGC and metering of them all, but suffered from some of the bugs of putting tubes on circuit boards, which didn't play havoc on the receiver as it did the Mark IV transmitters. But even at that, it was one of the best.
